Step 1:
The Title of the exhibit is “Forty – The Sabres in the NHL
The theme is to celebrate the Buffalo Sabres in Buffalo for 40 years. The exhibition also debuts a new and innovative video installation, NHL in 360 degrees letting the spectator get a real feel of the action that a hockey player experiences.
Step 2:
1. The lighting was soft white as it is like in the HSBC arena before a game
2. The colors on the walls were white and plain to bring out the detail of the works, I assume.
3. The pictures were on walls and the NHL in 360 degrees was in its own room separated by a black curtain that you had to walk around.
4. The exhibit was upstairs and started you off on some old pictures of past players. Then it branches off into separate rooms. One room was full of fights and brawl pictures with two flat screens with clips of some fights that went on. Another had pictures of great saves and a video of the same.
Step3:
1. The artworks are orientated in rows of three where they fit, and the bigger pictures are alone on the wall.
2. The artworks are similar in emotion. There are like I said the fight pictures are all together and there are some pictures that show the point of view from a children’s point of view showing a young boy looking onto the ice. What he must think in watching the game.
3. It is nice to see the view of the different photographers and how they interpret their images. I saw a lot of action shots and also a lot of shots like a behind the scenes look on the faces of the players off the ice or a break in the game.
4. They framing was clean. There was more focus on the art and not the framing.
5. There were no labels on each print. There was just a note in the corner showing the photographer’s name.
6. The artwork covered all the open wall space that it could. There wasn’t much wall left.
Step 4:
The Artist of the works that I selected is Ron Moscati. There is no title of the work which confused me a little of the meaning behind the photos that he took. I could have used a little more information on the display.
He had taken photographs and sized them to almost the full height of the wall.
I have included the pictures here.
The pictures were displayed on a wall all on their own. There are three side by side in a 3 motion set. Pictured are fans of the Buffalo Sabres with one of the male fans standing and showing an emotion of excitement. He seems to be yelling at the players to do something. I think he is telling them to show a better defense. “Come on. Defense! Get set up!” In the next photo is the same gentleman and he is still standing but now with his hands on his waste in disbelief that the team didn’t listen to him. The fans around him are more laid back in the disappointment. In the third photo the man has had it. He can’t bear to watch anymore while he sits with his head in his hands. A funny thing is the woman beside him is laughing at the display of the man.
I have been to many games and have yelled instructions to the team and sometimes they listen and sometimes they don’t. It is great fun to go watch them do very well but when they aren’t doing well, it’s the fan who knows what to do. Maybe not, I have played hockey and it is much harder than it looks to do very well every game.
I took my daughter with me to the exhibit and she loved it. She was so excited to go that she made a drawing and she gave it to the girl at the front desk. I have added the picture of her in front of her favorite painting of the day.
Thank you.
